Canada Needs a Real Leader
Time for a Real, Productive Change in Canadian Leadership.
Put Canadians first.
Long neglected. And now, we are seeing the consequences.
What not to do?
Retaliate with our own tariffs. The U.S. economy is much larger, far less dependent on trade, and less reliant on specific markets.
Canadian businesses and consumers will suffer more than their American counterparts. The Canadian economy will always experience greater strain than that of the U.S.
Trade wars are not a viable solution. They might be if Canada had better alternatives. However, we have chosen not to capitalize on our natural resources or build the infrastructure needed to leverage them. Consequently, we remain at the mercy of the United States. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Printing more money to support Canadians is also not a viable solution. It exacerbates inflation, further straining Canadians' wallets and devaluing our currency. Once again, America benefits from this.
The choices are clear. Leadership needs to actually lead. Here are some ideas:
Trump has emphasized common-sense ideals through his concerns, whether justified or not. Yes, Canada should protect its borders and crack down on the war on drugs. This benefits not only Americans, but Canadians as well—that's the point, protecting Canadian interests!
Reduce our dependence on the U.S. - not in haste, but in strategy. Just as diversification reduces risk in an investment portfolio, diversification can also reduce risk in global trade.
Interprovincial trade barriers are a real thing throughout Canada, and these should be torn down to facilitate alternative options within our own country. Amazing!
Leverage our natural resources to other global markets. We must commit to building the infrastructure necessary to transport these commodities to markets beyond the U.S. This includes constructing pipelines, refineries, and LNG (liquified natural gas) facilities. For instance, when Europe faced an energy crisis due to the cut-off from Russian supply, it was a perfect opportunity to utilize our strengths. However, our leadership had different plans, which ultimately hurt Canadians.
Time to focus on Canadians by increasing productivity within the country. Bring new investment in through a mix of several measures: reducing personal and corporate taxes, cutting unnecessary regulations, eliminating excessive government spending, and abolishing the carbon tax.
As of February 3, 2025, the Canadian government under Trudeau has agreed to implement a $1.3 billion border plan which includes: appointing a ‘Fentanyl Czar’, reinforcing the border with 10,000 personnel along with new helicopters and technology, list cartels as terrorists, and launch a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime. drugs, and money laundering.
